Keeping water clean

We're investing more than $24 million each year on work to protect and improve water quality in local rivers, lakes, streams and aquifers.

That delivers work on the ground with land, business and infrastructure owners, alongside iwi and the wider community, to prevent pollution; reduce bacteria, nutrient and sediment run-off; and improve habitat for fish and other freshwater wildlife. We're also updating the Regional Water and Land Plan to strengthen rules and deliver on community-led targets for managing water quality and quantity.
